The kiddos have been learning all about animals on the island with help from Emily at Felix Neck. In the winter we took a walk around the sanctuary and returned to see the changes in spring! Before we ventured to Felix Neck, Emily came in and taught the kids all about ospreys. They learned about the different adaptations the osprey has so it can survive here on the island during the summer months. Kids got to see osprey specimens from 1912! We also got to compare the wing span of the osprey to our own wing spans.
We had wonderful weather for our trip. The kids enjoyed walking through the sanctuary on a sunny warm day and were quiet enough to see lots of wildlife. They noticed the changes in the park and how it was much greener than before! We got a chance to see a painted turtle sun bathing, three ospreys flying around their nests and tons of birds. At the end of the trip, the kids got to go into the discovery center and look and feel in the touch tank. They saw our ocean habitat and what animals they may encounter at the beach! Check out Snap Shots for more pictures from the trip!
