These first graders have had a busy start to the year. They have learned more about themselves and each other through sharing writing, bringing in a bag with things about them to share and playing out on the playground.
The kids have also started to dive into independent reading. They are using strategies to help them when they get to words they don't know. They have even been reading with a buddy. They ask questions about what they read and share connections they have to the books they read.
Math has been all about shapes. They have identified plane shapes and solid figures. They have even started to learn fractions! They have split shapes into equal parts and learned about halves and fourths. Soon we will be diving into addition!
In science they have been planting kale. They have also been using their 5 senses to learn about new vegetables that were grown in the school garden. We have started learning about cranberries and how they grow. We will get to visit and cranberry bog and see what makes them so special!
